    Impact on Whitesville Central School

    Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Buses will be leaving the school at 8:30 Monday morning to deliver educational materials for all of our students and meals to those who requested it. They are stopping at every stop that our buses typically pick your children up from, so please plan to have someone there waiting to collect any materials if possible.  Keep in mind that this process may take an hour, so please be patient!  If no one is home or not available to be at a bus stop location, pick up at the school will be from 11-12 & 3-4pm on the High School side.  We miss you!

Please be advised that Monday, March 16th was used as our 3rd snow day.  The remaining days of this week, Tues-Fri, will be made up over Spring Break.  Spring Break will now consist of the Friday before and Monday after Easter as our days off with Tues-Friday being make up days.

    Monday, March 16, 2020

All faculty and staff will remain out the rest of this week. Today will be considered 3rd snow day with the next 4 days being emergency days which will be made up over spring break. Our goal is to contact families beginning tomorrow to see if your child has WiFi and if they need breakfast and lunch provided. Beginning Monday, March 23rd we are planning to provide bagged breakfast and lunch for any students that need it. We will also begin distance learning on Monday. As you know, things are changing daily.

Please contact Melissa Waters if you need to update your contact information.

    Dear WCS Families,

As recommended recently by the Allegany and Cattaraugus County Health Departments, all school districts – including Whitesville Central School – will be closed to students effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020 through Sunday, April 12, 2020, with instruction occurring through home-based curriculum. This closure also applies to all district students who normally attend classes at CA BOCES campuses. While there are still no confirmed cases in our region at the time of this communication, the action is ordered out of caution, as cases in neighboring counties continues to rise. The main purpose of the order is to slow the potential spread of disease among students and the community.

Here are some important pieces to consider as we head into our planned closures:

    • Our district and all programs will be closed to students on Monday, March 16. This closure will allow our instructional team and other staff members to train and finalize educational and support plans for students.
    • Students should report for a regularly scheduled day on Tuesday, March 17. On this day, they will receive instruction for study, tools, and supplies for the duration of the closure. Students who attend a CTE program at a CA BOCES center will also receive instruction for their respective program. Parents will receive a copy of all instructions for their students.
    • As a district, we do have a food plan in place to provide meals to those students who require it during the closure. In addition, students with disabilities who receive specialized services will continue to receive the educational support needed to be successful. You will be receiving specific communication on these areas by Tuesday.

We appreciate your support during this challenging time. We continue to be proactive in keeping our students, staff and communities safe. Please check our website regularly for updates, however, you may call the Main Office (607.356.3301 x221) with any urgent needs.

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding!
