Our 3rd grade created potato people, wrote descriptions, and shared their creations with a 3rd grade class in Jamestown! Students from both schools exchanged potato people descriptions and then created their own versions of what their potato person would look like based on the descriptions they were assigned. Then they Zoomed with each other to compare their creations and see how close they were to each other!

🍽March is National Nutrition Month🍽 Everyone is so busy, but you can still eat healthy, even "on the run." 🚗 Here are tips on how to eat healthier when "eating out": 1. Bring healthy snacks along in the car -- cut up vegetables, whole fruit, nuts or sunflower seeds, and protein bars. 🥕🍏 2. Have the kids pick out and prepare the healthy snacks. 3. Think ahead and plan where you will eat. Pick a place with healthier options. 4. Choose grilled over breaded, baked or broiled over fried. 5. Order the child size portion or an appetizer instead of a main course. 6. Split dessert or order fresh fruit with whipped cream for dessert.🍓 7. Hold up on eating bread or chips before your meal is served. Hunger may drive you to fill up on those before your meal is served. 📣Remember, eating healthier leads to a happier and healthy YOU!☺

This year there are two open seats on the Whitesville Board of Education. Please consider picking up a petition if you are interested in serving. Deadline for petitions is Monday, April 21.

QUICK NOTE: We will be testing our lockdown system today (3/14) along with other safety features.
If you hear our emergency notices/messages or see our strobes flashing, there is no emergency.

Shout out to Giada in 1st grade! She received her 100th sticker today on her iReady lessons! Way to go!!

We started our day with a warm welcome. Thank you ACS💙🤍💜

⏰Have you caught up on your sleep from losing an hour for daylight savings time? At WCS, we know that sleep is just as important to our students' health as good nutrition🍎 and physical activity. 🏃♀️ Too little sleep can lead to an unhealthy weight, and puts us at higher risk for type 2 diabetes, even for kids. Eatright.org talks about how important sleep is to kids and gives us tips on how to prioritize getting enough sleep. https://www.eatright.org/health/wellness/healthful-habits/how-sleep-habits-affect-healthy-weight

Superintendent's Day on Friday, March 14. No school.

On Wednesday, March 5th the Whitesville Marketing students headed to Rochester, NY to compete in the NY State DECA competition. DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. DECA allows business students from all over the state to compete in testing and role play events. Graci Lewis-Ellison, Katrina Lewis and Bella Pepiciello competed by testing along with two role play events. All the ladies gave it their ALL against many larger school districts. Katrina Lewis was awarded a medal for being in the top 10 of her event Marketing Communications. Bella Pepiciello was in the top 10 of one of her two role plays for Apparel and Accessories event. It is a long three days with competing with well over hundred students in each category at times. We are beyond proud and grateful for these ladies who showed professionalism, respect, and knowledge throughout the conference. Way to FLY high Blue Jays!

WCS BOARD OF EDUCATION meets Tuesday, March 11.

Our Diversity Ninjas participated I'd Read Across America by dropping everything to read. 💙🤍💙

🍽March is National Nutrition Month with the theme of "Food Connects Us".🍽 Do children need carbohydrates? Certain diets restrict all carbohydrates, but is this good for kids? Carbohydrates are the body's preferred fuel for active brains and growing muscles,. While reducing certain carbohydrates that are high in sugar is healthy, eliminating all carbohydrates is not. 🥗 Learn what kinds of carbohydrates are best for kids at https://www.eatright.org/health/essential-nutrients/carbohydrates/children-need-carbohydrates

WAY TO GO!! Our 5th graders won BOTH Breakfast Club awards for "Cafeteria Behavior" AND "Cleanest Classroom"! Talk about striving for success! Keep it up Blue Jays!!
