Yesterday, Mrs. Levitt's Breakfast Club talked about the importance of having positive short term and long term visions. As adults, we often assume kids know how to set goals and have visions for their futures, however, many children need guidance learning how to narrow these down as they get older. Some struggle to recognize their own positive skills in order to see the bigger vision for themselves. Breakfast Club is a way to help our students discuss these concepts, share ideas in a safe environment, and continue thinking and working on these themes and ideas in their classrooms and at home!

📢WE NEED YOUR HELP! PLEASE SIGN YOUR CHILD UP!

Mosaic Health Community Dentistry has come to WCS the past two years to provide dental services. These services have included screenings, dental health education, x-rays, cleanings, sealants and more! 🪥

This year, we need a head count to determine if we have enough participating students for a Mosaic Health dental hygienist to come and provide these services.

The forms will be coming home with every student. If you want your child to participate, please return the completed form NO LATER THAN next Friday, October 17th. This will allow time for Mosaic to determine if enough students are participating.

After Oct 17th, we will notify you if services will be provided or if we do NOT have enough returned forms for Mosaic Health to come this year due to lack of anticipated participation.

Let's sign up, so we can get these important services at WCS!💙

Yesterday's Outdoor Education groups learned about the role that Oak Trees and acorns play in nature, as well as the different eating habits of grey squirrels and red squirrels. Then they put their gross and fine motor skills to the test by rolling balls of wet felt to form their own acorns necklaces!

Friday, October 17, 2025: Our WCS Parents as Partners Program will offer "Halloween Crafts" from 5-6:30 in the WCS Cafeteria! Please plan to join us with your child(ren)! All materials will be supplied!

What is Parents as Partners?

WCS believes that parents are essential contributors to their child’s learning and development. The goal of our Parents as Partners program is to build strong school-family-community partnerships to enhance student achievement, creativity and character.

Parents as Partners is a new program at WCS designed to offer parents an active, engaged collaboration time within the school setting which supports their child’s social-emotional development and education.

Each month, WCS will host a Parent as Partners event that involves creativity and collaboration with your child(ren). We will offer hands-on fun learning experiences, that provide our families structured time to wonder, explore and grow together.
We sure hope your family can make it!

October 5-11th, is Fire Prevention Week with the theme of “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The focus on lithium-ion batteries aims to better educate the public on how to buy, charge, and dispose of them safely. Our students have been learning about how to safely take care of their rechargeable devices by making posters in art class. This week will continue to revolve around Fire Safety, ending with our Whitesville Volunteer Firefighters giving their annual presentation to our students. This is a great opportunity to talk with your children about Fire Safety plans in your home as well!

4th Grade had a personal narrative party! What's a personal narrative party, you ask? First, they read "Small Steps," a personal narrative by Peg Kehret sharing her experience of having polio. To extend their awareness of polio and make connections to their reading, they enjoyed chocolate milk while presenting their own personal narratives, because chocolate milk was the only thing Peg Kehret could drink! Then they wrapped up their Friday by playing Candy Land, which is a game created by a teacher who also had polio!

Mrs. Emery's Breakfast Club group this morning brain stormed their beginning concepts of "We before me": 'W'ork hard and 'E'ffort were today's topics. Every student has a journal that they will be capturing their ideas in. This morning they had to come up with three examples in their journals of how they can demonstrate hard work and effort in their lives. These concepts then carry over as a reminder of what they should be striving for as the day continues! Thank you, Mrs. Emery!
